About Alice

I gained my first venture into foreign travel back in July of 1976, flying on a British Airways 747-100 which was heading to Austrailia via Bahrain. I still regard Bahrain as ‘home’ because I spent so much time there whilst growing up and look forward to returning again one day. Whilst there, I became fascinated by the Arabic way of life, especially their religion, architecture and food, making numerous visits there over the next fifteen years. I’ve also spent time in Qatar, Hong Kong, Macau and Thailand, USA and Europe, flying on numerous different aircraft including the Concorde.

More recently I’ve explored many more European towns and cities taking short city breaks to several destinations within Germany, Italy, Portugal, Holland and France. I’m lucky to live just outside London, certainly one of the greatest cities in the world and even though I’ve been there many times for both work and pleasure, I’m still fascinated by the history and diversity that this city has to offer. I’m also a huge fan of public transport, opting to travel by train or coach to many of the destinations that I visit and like nothing more than travelling through cities on a local bus or tram.

One aspect which dominates my travels is my love of history and I like nothing more than discovering something new and interesting on every trip. A country’s history can be both rich and fascinating, but it’s the people who make a place what it is. The ethnic diversity in a location and their influences on a particular town or city combining the cuisines, religions and architecture of different cultures, for me, adds to the ambience of any given destination. Over the years I’ve met some amazing people and it’s those encounters which have made my trips so much more enjoyable.

It’s only quite recently that I’ve started documenting my travels on my YouTube channel, which has been made so much easier by modern technology. Back in 1976, photography was rather different to what it is today and that involved waiting several days for my films to be developed. There were no mobile phones, no digital technology and the only items ‘on a line’ was our washing!

I’ve been involved with history and tourism for many years now, so by combining my various backgrounds into creating my YouTube channel was the next step, so I hope to bring something different to you as the viewer.
